RISE is different. RISE can help you shine. With RISE you can study any course you desire, at any level and anywhere.

RISE isn't like school, where you may have had to juggle lots of subjects you didn't enjoy. RISE isn't like a university either, which requires a huge commitment from its students to work towards a degree. Instead RISE will help you find a course you want to study which fits into your timetable. This might involve learning computer skills to help you find a new job, or developing a hobby you've always been interested in.

RISE offers such a wide range of courses because it wants you to find something which appeals to you and meets your needs. However, you might have an ambition to learn something we haven't offered. That's why we've developed the RISE Support Network, through which you can communicate all your learning needs to the RISE team.

A learning advocate

Tyrone is from Somerton in Newport and has signed up to study for a Food and Hygiene Certificate at his local RISE centre. His goal is to open a salad bar with a friend who is also studying a catering course.

Before signing up to study catering, Tyrone was studying mechanics at college but he decided it wasn’t for him.

He says, “I love cooking and I used to work in a fish and chip shop which made me decide I wanted to work with food - but on a healthier level! I had a chat to some friends and a development worker at RISE and they all gave me the confidence to go for it.”

“The RISE network can give people the chance of a future. A lot of kids my age are just hanging around the streets and getting into trouble. RISE offers you the chance to do something worthwhile with your life and the staff at my local RISE centre really do listen and support you no matter what it is you want to achieve.”
